Youth Development Project

We carried out a Youth Development the young Somali Youth who are classified as NEET (or at high risk of becoming NEET), who live in Tower Hamlets. We ran 2 accredited programmes; an Active IQ and First Aid at work. We also ran One2One and group Employment workshops, which included CV building, job hunting skills.

The project also addressed confidence-building and self-esteem issues faced by these young people, through volunteering, organisational skills, career guidance and self-reliance.


Benefits of our users

The benefits of our users, as a direct result of our project were enormous. For example:

  • 15 young users gained an Active IQ qualifications
  • 7 young people gained First Aid at work
  • 9 young people gained advanced skills in employment and job hunting skills
  • 5 young people gained vital volunteering skills
    • All young people who participated the programme gained an enhanced confidence, self-esteem and self-worth;
    • Enhanced access to the employment market through employment training and work placement;
    • All young people who participated the programme an enhanced physical and mental health through active participation in sporting activities and an improved discipline and self-respect through leadership and less involvement with the cjs; and
    • More self-reliance leading to more social and economic inclusion.
    • 3 young people secured either paid or unpaid jobs. Another 2 went to further training for better recognised qualifications.
